Situated in the scenic Hayakawa Valley, Fukuzumiro Ryokan represents the quintessence of traditional Japanese hospitality in the heart of Hakone. This 4-star hotel, recognized as part of Japan's 20th Century Heritage for its remarkable wooden architecture and serene natural surroundings, offers guests a genuinely immersive experience. Key amenities include its celebrated onsen baths, exquisite dining options, and meticulously furnished traditional rooms, making it one of the best places to stay in Hakone for those seeking authenticity and comfort.
Traditional Rooms with a View
Fukuzumiro Ryokan boasts 17 traditional rooms, each featuring tatami mat flooring, futon bedding laid out nightly by staff, and minimalist decor that highlights the stunning natural beauty outside. Most units come with charming indoor "porches" or sunrooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing guests to enjoy the garden, river, or mountain views. One unique room offers both a private en-suite toilet and its own hot spring bath, providing an extra level of privacy and luxury.
Culinary Delights in Authentic Style at Fukuzumiro Ryokan
This Hakone hotel is renowned for its traditional Japanese multi-course dinners, known as kaiseki. These meals consist of various small dishes made from seasonal and local ingredients, including fresh seafood and vegetables. Guests dine in their rooms at low tables flanked by floor cushions, enhancing the cultural experience. A free full breakfast is also provided, ensuring a delightful start to the day.
Unrivaled Services for a Memorable Stay at Fukuzumiro Ryokan
Guests are kindly requested to indicate the gender of each guest when booking to tailor the amenities provided, including traditional yukatas to wear around the ryokan. On arrival, visitors must remove their shoes, storing them in wooden cubbies, a practice that adds to the authenticity of the ryokan experience. Safety is a priority, with features such as carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.
Entertainment and Relaxation: A Blend of Tradition and Nature
Entertainment at Fukuzumiro Ryokan centers on relaxation and cultural immersion. Three different types of onsen baths—including a wooden round tub made with big pine pieces—offer therapeutic experiences using natural spring water. Rooms offer free WiFi and flat-screen televisions, but the serene scenery and tranquil onsen baths are the main attractions here.

This place is absolutely amazing! I felt like royalty during my stay. The staff here went out of their way to attend to my special dietary needs and provided the best vegan meal I have ever eaten. The traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast were both delicious and the staff were so lovely and helpful. The location is great, just a short walk from the train station and close to town. The onsen here is also fantastic, with hot and clean water for a relaxing soak. this hotel provides enhanced comfort and quality services, making it a luxurious experience.

The room with a private bathroom and onsen was amazing, offering a unique and authentic experience. The hotel's location was convenient, being within walking distance of the train station and close to a 7-11. The staff provided excellent service and made the experience special, going above and beyond to accommodate guests.
The room was quite dated and could use some renovation and modernization. The dinner served in the room was traditional Japanese, which may not appeal to everyone's taste.

Our stay at this traditional Japanese inn was absolutely magical. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with exceptional service and hospitality. The staff, especially our host, was polite, informative, and spoke fluent English. The inn's location was ideal, with the bus stop just a minute away, making it easy to explore the nearby town. We also enjoyed the proximity to the train station, just a short 15-minute walk or a quick bus ride.
While our experience at this inn was overwhelmingly positive, there were a few minor drawbacks. the shared bathroom was a bit inconvenient, especially since the toilet was located down the stairs and corridor from our room.
